Episode 1 and 2 are shortened to make things easier for beginners. The learning curve is quite smooth. The Stages are fairly straight forward and the enemies are few in number allowing for new players to practice and learn. Each Episode contains a different theme and sets of enemies. For example, Episode 1 is mostly a forest and contains beast type enemies and orcs while Episode 5 is a city theme and contains mostly human type enemies. Episode 1 Stage 1 does not allow for parties because it contains a tutorial, but everything after that is fine. As the game progresses, the stages get a bit longer and enemies basically rise 1 level each Stage. Healers are almost required once you reach Episode 3 and definitely required by the time you hit late Episode 4. Upon completing Episode 3 Stage 10, Legend mode is unlocked which is basically a hard mode for the Stages containing new enemies and stronger bosses. However, these Stages also provide much better items and rares. The final enemies in the game so far are level 80 at the end of Legend Episode 6 Stage 10. The major problem is that unless its a Stage 10, most of them tend to be empty and players will have difficulty finding a party for those Stages.
Although there is no character customization at first, this is where equipment comes in. Each character has a large number of equipment to them available at each level. There are 4 sets available in the shop, at least 3 sets from Rare Boxes, at least 3 sets from Great Boxes, 2 sets from quests, and 1 more set from completing Stages. Raid dungeons also have another set of equipment available. These can be mixed and matched in any way although the game itself encourages using a matching set by providing stat bonuses for using a matching set. At first, the game provides equipment that only your character can use, but at higher levels, this stops and you basically have to start trading with other players to obtain the equipment for your character. This results in certain items being more expensive because there are always more Dainn than Slimes and always more Dacy than Eir. Equipment changes everything from style of clothes to hair. There are also decorative items that change looks but does not change your stats. Some item mall items can change looks and stats though.
Quests in Lunia Gold are fairly straight forward. They generally require you to accept the quest, then kill a certain number of that enemy, then return and complete the quest. Quests provide a fairly large amount of experience points and provide some equipment as well. However, they fail to solve the problem that begins around level 50. The exp curve gets steep fast at first requiring 1 million or so exp to level up and going to around 20 million exp to level up by the time you hit level 60. Raid dungeon quests are provided around these levels, but fail to make up for the difference. As a result, you will be constantly running Episode 6 Stage 10 and hunting down the Soldin boss for exp because it provides the best exp to time ratio. 12 minutes for 500k exp is much better than doing quests and raid dungeon bonus exp are only available once a day.
